This year, Saudi Arabia is expected to receive an estimated 30 million tourists who will spend at least one night there. The promising opportunities for the Kingdom’s thriving tourism sector will be highlighted during the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition from May 6 to 9 at the Dubai World Trade Center, attended by thousands of visitors and exhibitors from around the world.
Last year, the Saudi government increased its expectations for the number of domestic and international visitors in 2030 to 150 million from the previous 100 million. The Kingdom aims to increase the economic contribution of the tourism sector to 10% of GDP by the end of this decade, thanks to significant investments in the tourism, hospitality and entertainment sectors, as well as the development of a large number of large and ambitious projects.

Data from the Saudi Ministry of Tourism suggests an increase in visitor numbers in the first half of 2023. The kingdom received 14.6 million tourists during the period, an increase of 142% compared to the previous year. There was also a noticeable increase in the country’s domestic tourism sector, with spending increasing by 16% and the average length of stay increasing to 6.3 nights, compared to 4.6 nights compared to the same period in 2022.
Global economic outlook
Saudi Arabia’s booming economy is driving growth across the Gulf region, according to the World Bank’s latest report on the global economic outlook. The Saudi economy is expected to grow by 4.1% this year, contributing to an expected 3.6% increase in GCC countries’ gross domestic product in 2024.

The concept of eco-friendly travel is considered one of the key core themes of the exhibition this year, continuing the sustainable efforts that were central to the Year of Sustainability in the UAE and during the Conference of the Parties (COP28). which took place in Dubai late last year, and the Arabian Travel Market Exhibition 2024 will explore how the use of innovation can help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a more sustainable travel and tourism sector for future generations to accomplish.
The Arabian Travel Market exhibition attracted more than 40,000 travel professionals in 2023, including 30,000 visitors, marking a new record set by the exhibition last year. More than 2,100 exhibitors from around 155 countries took part in the exhibition.
