The board meeting was organized by Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong. He gathered 40 presidents of various branches of the Samsung Group to discuss the situation of smartphones and artificial intelligence while also discussing business plans. According to a report by South Korean website Naver, a video was shown at the meeting containing “thoughts and opinions of users who use Samsung devices, as well as their expectations from them.” The video also included a comparison with the competition, and then came the statement that the Samsung Galaxy S series smartphones were more disappointing than the iPhones in this respect.

President Lee Jae-yong urged the company to think more about its devices from the customer’s perspective. Another focus was on generative artificial intelligence, so this aspect will also be further developed in the company’s future smartphones. So there’s a slim chance that we’ll see smartphones next year that still bring at least a small touch of freshness. Currently, many manufacturers are trying to create “safe” smartphones, that is, those whose shape is already known and whose changes every year are very cosmetic. It is worth mentioning that Samsung has lost its leading position in smartphone sales for the first time in many years. Therefore, the company needs to take a different path and listen more to the voices of customers.
