Tumblr, the popular social media site that once took the world by storm, has decided to reduce its number of employees. From now on, the blog site will continue with a core team.
It existed before TikTok or Instagram existed. While the blog site Tumblr has been losing blood lately, it is now making changes in its working team.
Tumblr will be managed by a core team from now on. An internal memo from parent company Automattic said its efforts did not produce the expected results. However, it was claimed that Automattic created a TikTok-like algorithmic feed for the aging site.
The future of Tumblr, whose team has shrunk, does not look bright. In the news that the team will be downsized, it is stated that the majority of 139 people will move to other Automattic projects and a simple team consisting of security and support employees will remain.
Automattic, the company behind the blogging site WordPress, acquired Tumblr from Verizon in 2019. Besides WordPress, Automattic’s other brands include journaling app Day One, e-commerce plugin WooCommerce, Gravatar, and note-taking app SimpleNote.
