Another lucrative confiscation for the customs officers in the Pyrénées-Orientales. And this time it’s not drugs! Thursday January 4, 2024, Perpignan agents seized almost a thousand Cigars hidden in two postal packages.
The sale of cigars is regulated
Cigar smoking is still legal in France. However, we cannot just sell and buy them. Cigarettes, rolling tobacco, hookah tobacco, snuff… In France, the sale of these products is a monopoly entrusted to the customs administration, which exercises it through tobacco sellers.
Purchasing tobacco on the Internet (via online sales sites, classified ads or social networks) or by telephone is therefore strictly prohibited, regardless of the location of the site.

During this check on the flow of mail on January 4th, customs officers from the Perpignan regional directorate confiscated the 992 cigars found in two packages (mostly Andorran, the rest French).

The total value of this product is estimated at 21,240 euros. This illegal acquisition would have made savings possible 14,658 euros in customs duties and taxes. Unfortunately the buyer will never receive his packages.
