Good Sunrise Spots on New Year’s Day 2024｜2. Longji route
Dragon’s Back was named “Asia’s Best City Hiking Trail” by Time Magazine and has long been known at home and abroad. There are often queues during the holidays, so it’s recommended to leave early on New Year’s Day! First, take a taxi and get off at Shek O Road in Toi Te Wan. You can then hike up Section 8 of the Hong Kong Island Trail. The total length is about 9 kilometers. The entire trip takes about 3 hours. There are very clear signs along the way, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. Walk about 30 minutes to the top of Dalanchengding Mountain, from where you can already overlook the scenery of Shek O and Langtang Road. If you continue walking for a while, you will reach the top of Dragon’s Back: Dragon’s Back Observation Deck, where you can enjoy the view of Shek O, Tai Long Bay, Dong Lung Island and other places from a high position. To the east you can enjoy the endless sea views and the beautiful view of the rising sun.

The peak is definitely the most representative sunrise viewing point in Hong Kong. It is recommended to climb the mountain along the Pok Fu Lam Tree Study Trail, which extends from Lugard Road next to Peak Plaza. Along the way, you can overlook the peak landscape of downtown Hong Kong Island and on both sides of Victoria Harbor. The road is flat and easy to walk on. 2024 New Year Sunrise Location | 4. Dalingdong Route
The Lobster Bay Country Trail lies east of the Clear Water Bay Peninsula. It starts near the Tai Au Mun BBQ Ground and ends at Lobster Bay. It is about 2.3 kilometers long. The 291-meter-high Tai Ling Cave Tower takes about an hour to walk to the top. The landscape here is open and you can see many bays such as Sheng Wei Sea and Clear Water Bay. If the visibility is good, you can also see Shek Wei Island, Diao Chung Island, etc. You can enjoy the beautiful scenic waters in the southeast of Hong Kong. The Ngong Ping Plateau between Ma On Shan and Sai Kung is one of the few alpine grasslands in Hong Kong. The landscape here is very open, the field of vision is wide, and the scenery along the way is beautiful. This is the most famous sunrise spot in Ma On Shan. The height of the Ngong Ping Plateau is about 400 meters. You have panoramic views of Sai Kung Town as well as Tai Mong Tsai, Kiu Tsui Chau, Diaoyu Weng and the High Island Reservoir.
