Thiruvananthapuram: New textbooks have been approved in government schools. Education Ministry Minister V. Sivankutty said that the Curriculum Committee has approved the new textbooks. New books will be published in connection with the comprehensive revision of the curriculum. The textbooks are only revised and published after ten years.

173 textbooks were approved by the Curriculum Steering Committee. Textbooks for classes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 have been approved. Previously, a major curriculum reform was introduced in 2007. There were also some changes in 2013. There was no change in the curriculum for over 10 years.

For the first time in history, the Ministry of Public Education has decided to include the Preamble to the Constitution in all school textbooks. Minister V. Sivankutty informed that the government will include gender awareness and POCSO rules in the revised textbooks with emphasis on equal justice. The education department will also include civic consciousness, scientific consciousness, agriculture, democratic values ​​and secularism in the curriculum.

All books in the new syllabus will have Malayalam alphabet. In Thiruvananthapuram, the minister also said that children’s views would also be sought at the panchayat level.
