“We are currently collecting about 15,000 signatures per day,” Nageshdin told the YouTube channel Khodorkovsky Live on Tuesday.

Videos and photos posted on social media show queues of people in several cities wanting to support Nageshdin’s candidacy in the election, which is actually just a show to legitimize dictator Vladimir Putin’s strict rule.

Nagezdin’s campaign website says more than 100,000 signatures have already been collected. However, it is still unclear whether the Russian election commission will officially register him to take part in the elections scheduled for March 17. The Central Election Commission requires that 105,000 signatures be collected from different regions of Russia by January 25.

The Russian Election Commission has already collected the signatures of candidates disliked by the Kremlin on several occasions to take part in the various levels of elections, ensuring that only agents of the ruling totalitarian regime or representatives of fictitious opposition parties such as the Communists or the pocket party of the late Vladimir Zhirinovsky are admitted – the Liberal Democrats – can run in the elections.

Even if an anti-regime candidate manages to bypass these obstacles, his defeat is ensured by various machinations in the voting and counting.

Nagezdin’s candidacy was also supported by many Russians who fled abroad with their signatures, which could be a sufficient basis for the totalitarian regime’s authorities to cancel their signatures.

It was reported that police in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Obninsk temporarily detained Nageshdin’s campaign workers who were collecting signatures.
