“Magnificent”, “extraordinary”, “timeless”: The Pink Floyd fascinates the Nantes Planetarium

Around fifty planetariums around the world, including that of Nantes, are celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Dark Side of the Moon”, the legendary album by Pink Floyd. This psychedelic journey into space kicked off the first edition of an astronomy festival in Nantes this Saturday, January 13th. High-flying immersion with Tom Rossi.

A captivating visual and audio experience. To kick off the first edition of the astronomy festival “From the Earth to the Stars”, the Nantes Planetarium offers a psychedelic space journey to the sound of the legendary rock group The Pink Floyd. 45 minutes of star diving to celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary.The dark side of the moon”, sold 45 million copies. As in around fifty other planetariums worldwide, tickets for the six performances sold out very quickly.

We were lucky that the Pink Floyd producer said, “Hey, we released the album at the London Planetarium 50 years ago, why not do something again with planetariums around the world to mark the anniversary?” Traces of Véronique Dubois, director of the Nantes Planetarium. So they created a film illustrating all the songs on the album. In some the images are historical, for example with the conquest of the moon or the photos taken by the Voyager spacecraft, and in others they are more images from the surroundings of Pink Floyd: soaring, very colorful. There is something that blinds the eyes and ears.”

Amazed spectators

We obviously find symbolic images of the group, such as the prism of the album cover and the Pyramid of Giza. Hear “Time” and David Guilmour’s guitar solo, the viewer is weightless. “Afterwards I wanted to fly into space. smiles Mathieu, a thirty-year-old from Rennes who came on purpose. “It’s extraordinary, it took me back 50 years. When you immerse yourself in the galaxy, it’s great.”Chantal confides, somewhat touched.

For David: “This album hasn’t aged a bit, it has remained timeless. The sound with images of the moon, the International Space Station, planets and asteroids is pure joy. We traveled all this way.”

The last three performances on January 27th are already sold out, but further events are planned as part of the Astronomy Festival. Several exhibitions, concerts, demonstrations and stargazing are planned in the Nantes area until the end of the month.
