A piece of the fuselage of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 was torn off during a flight from Portland to Ontario. The plane was able to land safely. Some passengers who suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident are now suing the companies. Description: Overturned emergency door of a Boeing aircraft

On Friday, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 plane crashed at an altitude of less than 4,900 meters on a flight from Portland to Ontario, with a window blocking the emergency exit opening. This caused the cabin to become depressurized. The aircraft then thankfully returned safely to Portland International Airport where some of the passengers were treated.

“Shortly after takeoff, an incident occurred on AS1282 from Portland to Ontario, California. The aircraft landed safely at Portland International Airport with 171 passengers and 6 crew members on board. We are investigating what happened and will share more information as it becomes available,” Alaska Airlines said on social media X on Jan. 6 after the incident.

Alaska Airlines CEO David Calhoun acknowledged the mistake and stressed that an incident like this should never happen again.

“We will address this first by admitting our mistake. “We will approach this with 100 percent and complete transparency every step of the way,” he said at a staff meeting at the town hall of the plant that makes the 737 in Renton, Washington.

Calhoun also thanked the pilots and crew “who brought the aircraft back to the ground in a very turbulent moment and under very frightening circumstances,” the website reported nbc.news.

Six passengers on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 are suing Boeing after part of the plane’s fuselage broke off over Portland, Oregon, on Friday. Now the six passengers have filed a class-action lawsuit in King County Superior Court in Seattle, claiming Boeing owes them and the other passengers on Flight 1282 compensation for injuries sustained in the incident, the newspaper reported Seattle Times.

One of the plaintiffs said she suffered a concussion, soft tissue injuries to her neck and back and bleeding in one ear in the incident. She also confirmed that the oxygen mask did not appear to be fully functional during the flight.

“While everyone is pleased that the explosion occurred while the crew was still able to land the aircraft safely, this nightmare has caused economic, physical and lasting emotional consequences that have understandably deeply affected our customers and is another worrying sign for the troubled 737. MAX family of aircraft,” attorney Daniel Laurence of Stritmatter Kessler Koehler Moore, the law firm representing the passengers, wrote in a statement Thursday.

Elon Musk also commented on the incident and the Alaska Airlines company on the social network Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, DEI). “While our 2021 proposal included operational performance in the areas of product safety, employee safety and quality, for 2022 we will add two additional focus areas that are critical to our long-term work plan: climate and DEI,” the company’s annual incentive plan reads .

“Do you want to fly on a plane that prioritizes DEI over your safety?” Musk asked in reference to the incident.

“People are going to die because of DEI,” he added.
