Hakkari faces a catastrophe: experts call for “collaboration”
TMMOB Hakkari Provincial Coordination Board (İKK) Secretary Evin Gezer said in a statement to BirGün that they requested a meeting with the authorities regarding the situation in Hakkari, but their requests remained unanswered. Landslide areas in İRAP in Hakkari remained as earthquake areas. Stating that the only bridge connecting Hakkari with other provinces is the Depin Bridge, Gezer said, “Last week, Yüksekova Hakkari Road was closed due to a landslide. This bridge is a 40 year old bridge. If there was an earthquake now and this bridge collapsed, people would be stranded in the city. They will have nowhere to go and no help will be possible by land. The governor planned to build a new alternative bridge and this alternative bridge goes through a very insignificant place. “The wrong work is being done,” he said.

Gezer also made the following statements about the condition of the buildings in the city: “Hakkari is a first-degree earthquake zone. Normally, in the first degree earthquake zone, 4 floors or more are not permitted. However, there are 9-story buildings in Hakkari Center and right next to very old buildings. These are new buildings. A development amnesty applies to all of these buildings. But we cannot intervene in any way. “It’s like a cemetery is being prepared for us.”
