The new Formula E season is here and the first race takes place on Saturday, January 13th in Mexico City. Formula E is in its tenth season since its first edition in 2014. We will review the participating teams and drivers, race weekend format, etc. Jake Dennis was world champion last year and Envision Racing won the team title last time, but who will win this time?

What is Formula E? Formula E is the only motorsport in which the cars are completely electric. Although it is battery powered, it reaches a top speed of 280 km/h, but is significantly quieter than the cars you encounter at other motorsport events. Formula E World Championship organizers have previously said: “It’s not just a racing series, it’s a fight for the future,” with a sustainable campaign aimed at tackling urban air pollution and mitigating the effects of climate change. Our goal is to promote these opportunities. When did Formula E start? The first Formula E race took place in Beijing Olympic Park in 2014. The day’s winner was the Brazilian Lucas di Grassi, who has since competed in more races than any other driver and set a record with 13 podium places. Who takes part in Formula E? Formula E features 11 teams with two drivers and Envision Racing enters the new season as defending champions after winning the final race of the previous season. Briton Jake Dennis, riding for Andretti, is the champion. As you can see above, some cities host multiple rounds over the weekend. Unlike other motorsports events that take place throughout the weekend, most of the action takes place on race day. Drivers will practice for approximately 30 minutes on the Friday before race day. This means that the second practice session, qualifying and the final race will take place on the same day. What are the Formula E race times? The race is run over a set number of laps, but the number of laps can be increased if the safety car comes out. The number of laps can also be increased if the race director declares “Full Course Yellow” for safety reasons. The final number of laps of the race will be announced three laps before the end. The races usually last about an hour. How are the points distributed? The race uses a standard points system, as is common in other FIA-sanctioned events. The top 10 winners will be awarded points distributed as follows: 1st place – 25 points 2nd place – 18 points 3rd place – 15 points 4th place – 12 points 5th place – 10 points 6th place – 8 points 7th place – 6 points 8th place – 4 points 9th place – 2 points 10th place – 1 point The driver who takes pole position receives an additional three points, and the driver who sets the fastest lap (in the top 10), receives an additional point. Formula E qualifying format First up is the group stage, where the 11 cars on the grid are split into two groups and compete for the fastest lap time in 10 minutes. The fastest four people in each group advance to the duel phase. These eight players will compete in a 15-minute quarterfinal match. The fastest four advance to the semi-finals, the last two fight for pole position. The runner-up will take 2nd place on the grid, the losers of the semi-finals will take 3rd place and the quarterfinalists will take places 5 to 8. The remaining drivers of the pole setter group will be on the odd starting grid, the other groups on the even starting grid.
