Last year, according to the National Sustainable Mobility Association, Andemos, there was a 13.1% discrepancy in electric and hybrid vehicle registrations: 31,500 units were purchased in December and 27,845 in 2022.

Taking this growth into account, it can be deduced that Colombians are increasingly interested in this type of vehicle, with fossil fuel vehicles still leading the way (155,000 units registered in 2023). The market offers various options and prices to consider.

You can find a list of the cheapest to most expensive cars on the El Carro Colombiano website.. First up is the Renault Twizy with a price tag of $57 million. The price is affordable although the size is limited.

The Changan Lumin costs $69 million and features “technology, stability and motor response.” The Changan e-Star reference could be another option to consider as it costs $94 million and features a 74 horsepower electric motor.

People with more budget can consider the Dfsk Seres 3; It has a 161 horsepower electric motor and costs $159 million. On the other hand, the BYD Yuan Pro has the appearance of a 4×4 truck: the buyer can get a 134 horsepower machine at a price of $142.9 million.

As for car maintenance costs, BYD claims that electric cars have an advantage. For each mile traveled, the price of good operation of the electric machine is $229; for one that runs on fossil fuels, $382.

Mercedes-Benz states that the main advantages of electric vehicles are the reduction of mechanical failures and that they do not require speed changes because their operation is automatic. They also have more technology and safety, which also includes greater environmental protection.
