There have been many approaches to hybrid devices in recent years. Most of the time they didn’t work out so well because either Android doesn’t work well in laptop mode or Windows isn’t suitable for use as a tablet. Lenovo decided to take a different approach and offer a hybrid that makes sense on paper.
Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid
Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, as the new device is called, is a true hybrid of laptop and tablet. This is literally two devices housed in one housing. In laptop mode we have Windows and in tablet mode we have Android. As if that wasn’t enough, there are separate components for each of them.
The notebook uses an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and Windows 11. In tablet mode, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system and Android 13 are used. But that’s not all. The manufacturer even allows simultaneous use. On Windows it is possible to open a small window with a preview of Android applications.
The specification is complemented by a 14-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2.8K and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It seems a bit large for a tablet, but using the keyboard and trackpad may be easier, even in the wireless version, after physically separating them from the screen.
Lenovo appears to have prepared a configuration of the device with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of hard drive space for Windows and 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for Android. The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid will go on sale in the second quarter of 2024 at a suggested price of $1,999.
