Striking scenes from the game between FC Cologne and Dortmund on Saturday afternoon. In the 12th minute the game was interrupted by a protest from the fans. The reason: the billion-dollar deal that the German Football League (DFL) will conclude with an external investor. In the game between Red Bull Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen, Loïs Openda scored a goal, but his goal was unsuccessful.

The (upcoming) deal with the German Football League is causing a lot of excitement in Germany. An external investor has to pay 1 billion euros to take over a certain share of the television rights. Supporters’ association Our Curve argues that only the top teams will emerge stronger from the deal, while two-thirds of clubs will have to make do with “minimal improvements”. “Money comes first. “The uniqueness of German football is being thrown overboard in a hopeless race with the Premier League,” said the fans’ association.

And now the protest has also reached the Bundesliga game between FC Cologne and Dortmund. In the twelfth minute, supporters threw chocolate coins onto the field. Players had to wait eight minutes before play could resume. Among them: Thomas Meunier. Our compatriot fully recovered in Dortmund and was able to start for the fifth game in a row. From his familiar right flank, he saw that Dortmund had no problems with Cologne. After goals from Donyell Malen (2x), Niclas Füllkrug and Youssoufa Moukoko the score was 0:4. Jadon Sancho, starting for the first time since his return, had an assist and a penalty. Dortmund is now in fifth place in the Bundesliga with fifteen points less than Bayer Leverkusen.

Openda scores, but loses

Loïs Openda will be disappointed. His Red Bull Leipzig took the lead twice against leaders Bayer Leverkusen, the second time thanks to a goal from Openda, but Leverkusen equalized just as often. Leipzig also prevailed in stoppage time: 2:3 and the three points for Leverkusen. In the table, Xabi Alonso’s team consolidates its top position, Openda and Co. remain fourth in the Bundesliga, fifteen points behind Leverkusen. It was his eleventh competitive goal for the Red Devils.
