Minnesota State Senator Arrested for Burglary

A Minnesota state senator, Democratic Sen. Nicole Mitchell, was arrested on suspicion of ⁢first-degree burglary in Detroit​ Lakes, Minnesota, ​which is nearly four hours northwest of Woodbury, her represented area. Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd confirmed‌ the arrest.

Mitchell, aged 49, was taken into custody at Becker County Jail on Monday for the burglary charge, although formal charges have not been filed yet. Representatives for Mitchell have not provided any comments on‌ the situation.

Police responded to a burglary report at around 4:45 a.m. and found Mitchell inside the home. County property tax records indicate that Mitchell's late father and stepmother resided on the same block where the alleged burglary took place in 2022.
      
Senator Mitchell's Background
     
Mitchell, who is currently serving her first term after being elected in 2022, has a background as a TV meteorologist and Air National Guard commander. The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Caucus stated that they are aware of the situation but declined to provide further comments.
      
Republican Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson emphasized the importance of legislators upholding high standards of conduct. He mentioned that consequences should align with actions, both in the legal system and within Mitchell's legislative role.
