It’s no secret that many top international clubs are interested in signing Bilal El Khannouss (19) during the summer Mercatos. No club has signed up for the Cegeka Arena yet, so there can be no negotiations – let alone a transfer – at the moment. But Atlético Madrid seems to be planning a breakthrough.
Bilal El Khannouss and his entourage – his mother is now also his official agent – have already been invited by various clubs. The candidates include Liverpool and Leverkusen, but Atlético Madrid is most frequently mentioned. According to a Nico Schira on X, the Spanish club is even preparing a contract proposal for five seasons.

Since Atletico have not yet registered for Genk, such a suggestion would at least be premature. And despite breaching UEFA regulations, El Khannouss is still under contract with KRC Genk until mid-2027. Genk have already indicated that they want to take part in the most expensive exit in history next summer. So far this is still about Sander Berge’s move to Sheffield United in January 2020, when the Premier League club had 25 million available for the Genk midfielder.
