Asus has announced VR glasses, but the name is something special

Asus seems to be in the Apple fog.

“AirVision M1”

Because during CES 2024 they unveiled VR glasses in which the AR function is far from the most important thing – more on that soon. What we find funniest is that they apparently read Apple’s product catalog and put the name together that way instead of coming up with something original. Because here we find Air (MacBook Air), vision (vision Pro) and M1, i.e. the chip that was the first to be equipped with the competitor’s ARM architecture.

Engadget tested the product with a viewing angle of 57 degrees, which the company says is more than the competition, and found that the best usage scenario was to use them as a pair of additional screens: “With integrated micro-OLED displays with.” Full HD resolution (and 1100 nits max. and 95 percent DCI-3 color gamut) AirVisions can display up to six or seven virtual windows or desktops. You can also choose from a handful of formats (16:9, 21:9, 32:9 and more). You can either stick the screens into the virtual space or track your head as you move.”

The glasses use the company’s Windows software to create virtual desktops.

Integrated touch interface

Another advantage is that you can see through the virtual screens and use the keyboard and mouse without any problems. To control the headset, for example to set up new printer tables, use a touch interface on the left:

“When you use the AirVision M1 to watch videos, you can start or pause the content using the touchpad. When using multiple virtual screens, the touchpad can choose which screen to display front and center. A long press with one finger returns the content to the center of the screen, and a long press with two fingers switches the 3D mode. “You can also swipe forward or backward to adjust the brightness – you’ll likely find that the light sensor does most of the work when it comes to adjusting the brightness based on nearby lighting conditions,” explains Asus, who points out that The product is also equipped with a function so that the AirVision M1 automatically turns off when not in use.

The price is far cheaper than the Apple Vision Pro: $700. However, the start is still a long way off in the third quarter of this year.
