Apparently Kim is not yet finished attacking South Korea. Nuclear weapons are back in play

According to experts, the events on the Korean Peninsula are just the beginning. After years, nuclear weapons could come into play again, which Kim Jong-un will test again, so that the world will perceive his regime as a serious security threat.

Relations on the Korean peninsula cooled again. When Kim Jong-un sent hundreds of missiles into the territory of his southern neighbor in recent days (see this article and this article), he made it clear that he does not care about good relations. In a detailed analytical article, the South Korean newspaper Korea Times writes that the DPRK’s plans for this year include the production of super-large nuclear warheads and submarines capable of carrying out an underwater nuclear attack.

Experts interviewed told this newspaper that these circumstances indicate that North Korea may be preparing for its first nuclear weapons test since 2017. “In terms of priorities, a super-large nuclear warhead is the only weapon that hasn’t been revealed yet,” says Cha Du-hyeon, an analyst at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies.

The last nuclear test was estimated to have a yield of up to 100 kilotons, five times more powerful than the Nagasaki blast in 1945. Cha fears the new weapon, likely a thermonuclear weapon, would be much more powerful.

But experts agree that the goal is not to start a war but to demonstrate strength and deter potential attackers. “North Korea is doing everything it can to get U.S. policymakers to recognize North Korea as a significant threat that needs to be dealt with,” said Kim Jin-ha of the Korea Institute for National Unification.

To convince them of this, North Korea could simply test a new weapon or fire an ICBM at a normal angle rather than at high altitude. “To demonstrate its ability to attack the American mainland,” Kim Jin-ha added.

Late last year, the North Korean dictator shocked the world by declaring that war on the Korean Peninsula was inevitable and could break out almost at any time (more on that in this article).

The ceasefire between the Koreas could end very soon, according to security analyst Milan Mikulecký:
