VIVA LIFESTYLE – Insomnia or sleep problems are known to have very negative effects on health. In fact, a new study published in the journal Neurology found that insomnia symptoms can significantly increase the risk of stroke, especially in people under 50.

Dr. Wendemi Sawadogo of Virginia Commonwealth University revealed that the link between insomnia and stroke may also cause other, more serious health problems. Keep scrolling, OK?

“Symptoms of insomnia can increase the risk of developing diabetes, for example hypertension, dyslipidemia, and these conditions can be potential risk factors for stroke. Knowing this allows us to see the connection (between stroke and insomnia) that exists,” Sawadogo said, as reported HealthyLineTuesday, January 16, 2024.

The study was conducted based on the experiences of more than 30,000 participants, of whom 2,101 reported having suffered a stroke. The people studied were divided into 9 groups for analysis based on their own insomnia symptoms. This found that 5-6 people with insomnia symptoms had a 51% higher risk of having a stroke during the study period.

In addition to increasing the risk of stroke, another important finding is that the connection between insomnia and stroke is long-lasting and therefore cannot heal on its own.

“People who tend to have severe symptoms continue to report severe symptoms over time. So this is another way to emphasize the fact that people should be aware of their symptoms, they won’t go away if you don’t pay attention to them or treat them,” he explained.

Apart from insomnia, the risk of stroke can also be caused by many factors such as obesity, sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, poor diet, high blood pressure, cigarette smoke and many other causes. It is also known that strokes can be disabling and even fatal if not treated properly.

Just like Anji’s father, who died of a stroke. Through an upload on Instagram, Anji shared a photo of himself holding his father’s hand and added a quote about the causes of stroke symptoms. The day after praying for his father’s recovery, Anji delivered sad news.
