HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila took over as president. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Sharmila, who is also Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister, joined the Congress a few days ago.
Jidugu Rudra had recently resigned from the post of PCC president of Andhra Pradesh. AICC has issued a press release announcing that Sharmila will be the president of the PCC and Rudra will be the special guest of the Congress Working Committee.
She also merged her YSR Telangana Party with the Congress.
Sharmila joined the Congress in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS The Congress leadership believes that with Sharmila, who is also Rajasekhara Reddy’s daughter, joining the Congress, it will be possible to regain the lost glory in Andhra.
YS realized that his sister joining the Congress would affect his influence and image across the state. Jaganmohan Reddy sent his maternal uncle Shubba Reddy to negotiate with Sharmila but the attempt failed.
Before the elections in Telangana last November, it was said that the YSR Telangana Party would merge with the Congress. But the move took a long time.
Sharmila and YSRTP, which had declared support for the Congress in the Telangana assembly elections, stayed away from the polls to avoid decentralization of voting.
