An anti-Israel demonstration in Italy turned violent

After a protest march through the streets of the city, there were clashes with the police. According to AFP, demonstrators held banners that read “Liberate Palestine” or “Stop the bombing of Gaza.”

With the help of water cannons, the police finally managed to disperse the angry crowd, who threw fireworks and smoke bombs at the police.

The violent protests were immediately condemned by the city’s mayor, Giacomo Possamai, saying there was no justification for the violence. “Demonstrating for peace with violence is a contradiction,” he added in a statement posted on social media.

The international jewelry fair Vicenzaoro takes place in Vicenza from Friday to Tuesday, with 1,300 exhibitors from 40 countries taking part. According to the trade fair spokesman, the riots occurred just a few kilometers from the venue and therefore did not pose a threat to its continuation.
