(Alliance News) – Airtel Africa PLC on Tuesday announced the appointment of Sunil Taldar as its new chief, replacing Olusegun Ogunsanya, who will step down as chief executive later in 2024 after about three years in the role.
Mr. Taldar, who joined the Africa-focused telecommunications company in October, brings over 30 years of experience in fast-moving consumer goods and telecommunications. Mr Taldar served for 15 years on the board of Bharti Airtel Ltd, the largest shareholder in the FTSE 100-listed company.
Mr. Taldar is currently the Chief Transformation Officer of Airtel Africa.
“His experience in the industry, strategic vision, constant focus on customers and proven results will enable him to achieve our strategic objectives and lead the group in the next phases of its development,” said Sunil Mittal, President of “Airtel Africa”. .
Taldar will become CEO on July 1 when Ogunsanya steps down from the board after serving since October 2021. Ogunsanya will become chairman of Airtel Africa’s charitable foundation.
Mittal added: “As far as the transition period is concerned, Segun continues to lead the company very effectively, as evidenced by our financial results. With Sunil Taldar having already joined the group, we are confident that the transition management and transfer of responsibilities will take place in an orderly manner.
Airtel Africa shares rose 0.1% to 130.42 pence apiece in early trading in London on Tuesday.
