Delhi: Airfares to Ayodhya have shot up. Due to the influx of tourists to the city in connection with the opening of the Ram temple on January 22, airfares have increased. Flight tickets to Ayodhya are now more expensive than international fares.

With the construction of the Ram Temple, Ayodhya becomes an important pilgrimage and tourist destination. Even before the inauguration of the Ram temple, tourists flocked to the city. IndiGo charges Rs 20,700 for travel from Mumbai to Maharshi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya on January 19. Likewise, the price of the flight on January 20 is reported to be around Rs 20,000.

This is higher than fares on many international routes. For example, Air India charges Rs 10,987 for a flight from Mumbai to Singapore on January 19. Similarly, a direct flight from Mumbai to Bangkok on January 19 costs Rs 13,800.

Furthermore, the occupancy rate of hotel rooms in Ayodhya has also increased significantly. Many hotels reportedly charge four times as much. Ayodhya has less than 1,500 hotel rooms. There are no branded five-star hotels in the city, but most premium hotel rooms are fully booked until January 22.
