The rule's approval does not alter the process for a motion to remove the speaker, a change some Republicans had advocated for. Speaker Mike Johnson opted to maintain the existing rules despite considerations for modification.

Reps. Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a motion to vacate the speakership, prompting discussions on altering the threshold for such motions.
Rep. Mike Lawler urged immediate action to revise the threshold, cautioning against hasty decisions that could disrupt the House's functioning.
Division Among Republicans Over Speaker's Fate
While some hardliners opposed changing the motion to vacate threshold, moderates within the Republican Main Street caucus plan to urge Speaker Johnson to reconsider the threshold adjustment.
Rep. Anthony D'Esposito highlighted the need to prevent individual members from exerting disproportionate influence over the party and the institution.
Uncertainty Surrounds Potential Motion to Oust Speaker
Amidst the debate, most Democrats have not disclosed their stance on supporting Speaker Johnson in the event of a motion to vacate.
