A temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is currently being worked on

The working version of the draft document attempts to combine the proposals of both sides and is to be agreed on Sunday in negotiations between the warring parties and the mediators USA, Egypt and Qatar.

The agreement could lead to the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons and increased aid flows to the Gaza Strip.

The proposed two-month break would be the longest in the current war, but it is also not a permanent ceasefire that Hamas wants to achieve.

Negotiators are “cautiously optimistic about the possibility that a final agreement is within reach,” said the U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

In the first phase, fighting would be suspended for 30 days, but Hamas would have to release women, senior citizens and wounded hostages, the newspaper said.

At the same time, both sides would negotiate a second phase in which the men and soldiers would be released within the next 30 days.

US President Joe Biden sent Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns to Paris on Sunday for talks with representatives of Israel, Egypt and Qatar.

There are several unclear points, including the question of how many Palestinian prisoners Israel should release.

US government officials hope that Israel will not resume hostilities as before after the two-month ceasefire.
