ZTE has introduced the two new smartphones Axon 40 Ultra and Axon 40 Pro. The Ultra model comes with a third-generation under-display front camera. This cam is missing from the Pro model, which is allowed to set a higher refresh rate.
But let’s stay with the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra for now. This brings an AMOLED screen with 6.8 inches, 2,480 x 1,116 pixels as a resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. PWM dimming with 1,440 Hz is used to improve the display. On the back we find a triple camera with 64 (wide angle, OIS) + 64 (telephoto, periscope, OIS) + 64 (ultra wide angle). That does sound attractive and like a “real” triple camera, where all three sensors should make sense.
ZTE also emphasizes that all three lenses of the main camera can record 8K video and can be active simultaneously. The selfie camera is 16 megapixels. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 serves as the SoC. It is supported by a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The smartphone is available with 256 or 512 GB and 1 TB of storage space (UFS 3.1).
The battery of the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and can be charged with 80 watts. The device’s stereo speakers support DTS:X Ultra. Converted, the mobile device costs at least 710 euros in China.
The ZTE Axon 40 Pro comes with an AMOLED display with 6.67 inches, 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and even a 144 Hz refresh rate. Here, however, the selfie cam sits in a central punch hole. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 from the previous year serves as the SoC. There are versions with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage space. As with the Axon 40 Ultra, MyOS 12, based on Android 12, serves as the operating system.
For the main camera, there is a main sensor with 100 MP, an ultra wide-angle cam with 8 megapixels and a macro and depth sensor with 2 megapixels. There is also a 16 MP camera at the front. The battery is also 5,000 mAh here, but can “only” be charged with 66 watts. Stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra remain on board.
The manufacturer was still silent on the prices and release dates of the ZTE Axon 40 Pro. Let’s see if and when the ZTE Axon 40 Pro and Ultra will be presented internationally. Because the most recent event was initially only aimed at the Chinese market.
