A 37-year-old drowned in the Wörthersee on Wednesday afternoon. As the police announced in a broadcast, the man in front of Reifnitz (Klagenfurt-Land district) jumped from a pedal boat into the water.
When the boat was driven away, the Carinthian sank from exhaustion. He was brought ashore, but attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
Man jumps from boat in Wörthersee
According to the police, the Carinthian was traveling with his 39-year-old partner and her eleven-year-old nephew in a pedal boat from Reifnitz in the direction of Krumpendorf. Around 3:30 p.m. in the middle of the lake, the man and child jumped into the water to swim while the woman stayed on the boat. However, the wind and waves drove the pedal boat so far that the two swimmers were no longer able to swim back to the boat.
Partner wanted to help 37-year-old
When the woman saw how exhausted the 37-year-old was, she also jumped into the water and wanted to help the two of them, but she didn’t get it. Other boaters heard the woman’s cries for help, pulled the three into a boat and brought them to the shore in Reifnitz, where first responders began attempting to resuscitate the lifeless man until the rescue service arrived. The man died on the spot.
