Works in the center of Ath: the City met (and appeased) the traders

Sport Repair work on paved areas began on Monday morning in the center of Ath at rue de Pintamont d’abord. This project has caused a stir among traders, given the deadlines and the timing.

This Monday morning, representatives of the City and the Association of merchants met. “Constructively” said a joint statement.

“As for rue de Pintamont, it is only the section hard hit by the passage of buses and other heavier carts, opposite the Academy and the former barracks of the fire department that is concerned. The crossroads with rue Léon Trulin remains open.”

“With regard to rue aux Gâdes, and as for rue de Pintamont, only the roads are impacted. The sidewalks remain 100% accessible and therefore access to shops as well.”

Why such works at this date? “This is the least impacting solution for everyone… knowing that the City of Ath is also dependent on the availability of the company that will carry out the work.”

”The hypothesis of a start of construction after September 8 has been put on the table. Beyond the fact that we have no guarantee that the company will be able to accede to the request, the risk, due to bad weather in the fall, of seeing rue aux Gâdes still closed during the holiday season. he year is almost 100% complete for this project, the basic schedule of which is ten weeks (which leads to mid-December) subject to weather conditions.” The intersection with Place Ernest Cambier and Rue de l’Industrie will remain open to traffic.

The City notes that the Local Development Agency “will be available to traders affected by this project”.

The City and the merchants should meet again in two weeks, then again on April 6 (before the construction site on rue aux Gâdes).
