Woody Allen settles a $ 68 million lawsuit with Amazon for a movie

Woody Allen had filed a $ 68 million lawsuit for the termination of his contract with Amazon.

Woody Allen has reached a legal agreement with Amazon Studios after giving up a four-film deal.

Allen initially sued for $ 68 million (£ 52 million) in February on the grounds that he was allegedly harmed by further allegations of molesting his adopted daughter.

Amazon claimed that its comments on the #MeToo movement "sabotaged" its attempts to promote its new films.

The director denied sexually assaulting Dylan Farrow, who lost his case in 1992.

As part of the movie contract signed in 2016, Allen received an advance payment of $ 10 million. But two years later, his first film, "A Rainy Day in New York", was released and the plans for three other films are canceled.

Shortly before Amazon withdrew from the deal, Allen would have expressed sympathy for film producer Harvey Weinstein, accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women.

Mr. Weinstein denied the charges against him, but has since reached a $ 44 million settlement with some of the alleged victims.

Months after these first comments, Allen accused Dylan Farrow of having "cynically used the # MeToo movement" after repeating that he had assaulted her at the age of seven.

In an interview with Argentine broadcaster Eltrece, Allen said that he "should be the spokesperson for the movement Me Too" since he had worked with "hundreds of actresses" and had been " accused by a single woman in a child custody case ".

Amazon Studios said its decision to terminate the transaction was justified by the fact that Allen's comments were harming his financial security.

He also stressed that "many actors and actresses have expressed deep regret for having worked with Allen in the past and many have publicly stated that they would never work with him in the future".

In response, Allen said that Amazon was perfectly aware of Dylan Farrow's charge when signing the deal.

His company, Gravel Productions, got an international release for "A Rainy Day in New York" this year, but the distribution in the US has not been secured.

Timothy Chalamet and Rebecca Hall, who are starring in the film, announced last year that they were going to give their salary to a charity.
