- Elise Chabbey (2nd) and Marlen Reusser (3rd) make it onto the podium in the women’s Tour de Suisse.
- Elizabeth Deignan wins the overall standings by 1 second over Chabbey.
- In Frauenfeld, victory in the 2nd and last stage goes to the Italian Marta Bastianelli.
The starting position for the Swiss women before the second and final stage of the new launch of the Tour de Suisse for women was ideal. Elise Chabbey in the yellow jersey, Marlen Reusser and Jolanda Neff in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
But the Swiss women could not profit from it as desired. Chabbey, who surprisingly won the 1st stage on Saturday, showed a very active race on the 96.8 kilometers, a circuit in Frauenfeld, and wanted to challenge the favored Brit Elizabeth Deignan. But the former world champion collected valuable seconds in the intermediate sprints, had the better legs and finally won by one second.
Strong Swiss women
In addition to Chabbey, other Swiss women also presented themselves very strongly. Reusser finished 3rd in the overall standings, 34 seconds behind Deignan. Neff was 4th, 44 seconds back.
The stage win on Sunday went to Marta Bastianelli after eleven 8.8 km laps. The 34-year-old Italian, Reusser’s team-mate, was the fastest in the sprint of an eighth breakaway group. Linda Indergand was 4.
