An emergency call was received by the Basel police on Sunday morning, and shortly afterwards officials on Bahnhofstrasse in Muttenz came across a motionless, seriously injured woman. The 25-year-old victim lay in the entrance area of a property. The woman was immediately taken care of by the alarmed paramedics and brought to the hospital, the Basel-Landschaft public prosecutor announced on Thursday.
The police were able to locate and temporarily arrest a man in the immediate vicinity of the victim’s location. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the 41-year-old Hungarian is strongly suspected of being responsible for the woman’s serious injuries. A criminal investigation has been opened against the man. He is on remand. The presumption of innocence applies against him.
