DETROIT – Robbie Grossman started with a home run and four Detroit pitchers combined to allow two no-run hits as the Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
José Ureña, who started for the Tigres, allowed two hits in three innings to leave the game with a sore right groin. Daniel Norris (1-3) had six outs, Kyle Funkhouser struck out all three in the sixth and Gregory Soto worked the seventh for his eighth save.
Left-hander Charlie Barnes (0-1) pitched 4 2/3 innings in his major league debut, giving up four hits.
For the Tigers, the Mexican Isaac Paredes 3-1.
For the Twins, Venezuelan Luis Arráez 3-1. The Dominican Jorge Polanco 2-1.
