The popular Notepad ++ editor has been released in its final version 8. The big innovations include dark mode and the availability of a native version for ARM64. The developer has also adapted some icons for the toolbar (Fluent UI), and there is now a distraction-free mode that can be activated in the “View” menu. Microsoft Bing has been removed from the program. The developer is known for his political statements.
He notes: If a search engine takes over the censorship instead of its job, the search result loses its quality and is no longer reliable. As a result, Microsoft Bing will be removed from Notepad ++ for the “Search the Internet” command.
Probably a last minute decision. On the anniversary of the Tiananmen protests, the famous photo of the “Tank Man” could not be found in the Bing search engine. Microsoft spoke of an accident. The complete changelog and of course the download option of the free text and code editor for Windows can be found here.
