Georginio Wijnaldum will move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer – numerous media reports unanimously. The Liverpool midfielder decides not to accept the offer from FC Barcelona as PSG’s salary offer is far more financially lucrative.
FC Barcelona lost the tug-of-war over Georginio Wijnaldum. The midfielder, who will leave Liverpool on June 30th for free, opts for the financially more lucrative offer and will move to Paris Saint-Germain. Numerous journalists and media from Spain, France and the Netherlands report this unanimously, including the French medium RMC Sport and the usually very well-informed Dutch journalist Mike Verweij from Telegraph.
In fact, Wijnaldum had already reached an oral agreement with FC Barcelona after its agents had been in the FC Barcelona offices for talks at the end of May and an agreement had been reached. Even the medical test is said to have been scheduled for next week – but now the sudden U-turn.
?? RMC Sport confirms the information from the Italian, Dutch and Catalan press which agree that the transfer of Wijnaldum to PSG is only a matter of hours from now on.
The midfielder will soon be a Parisian player for a 3-year contract

PSG offers Wijnaldum twice the salary
PSG are said to have made a “much more generous financial offer” to Wijnaldum over the weekend ESPN. The talk is that the PSG offer should be twice that of the Catalans. Some media report that Barça Wijnaldum is offering four million euros and PSG has now offered eight million euros in annual salaries. Both clubs are offering the 30-year-old a three-year contract.
FC Barcelona is not ready (or able) to increase its salary offer again, it says at Sports world and SPORT in agreement – which is why Wijnaldum ultimately decided to move to Paris free of charge.
Barcelona President Joan Laporta himself said he hoped to announce another signing next week. Wijnaldum will not be this new addition – unless there is another extremely late and surprising U-turn.
It is quite possible that Barça are on the home stretch when signing Memphis Depay. Ronald Koeman’s whereabouts can be a trump card for the free transfer attacker from Olympique Lyon. Barça hopes to at least bag the transfer of the attacking star of the Dutch national team as soon as possible – so that something similar to Wijnaldum does not happen.
