On Tuesday, September 19, the champion of Ukraine Shakhtar Donetsk will start the group tournament of the Champions League with a nominal home match in Hamburg, Germany.
Both clubs directly made their way to the main draw of the most prestigious club tournament in Europe — “Miners” as champions of Ukraine, “Dragons” as vice-champions of Portugal. For “Shakhtar” this is the 18th participation in the group tournament of the Champions League, for “Porto” – the 27th.
Both teams have had a successful start to the new season in their national championships. “Miners” lead the standings after seven rounds, having scored 17 points (5 wins and 2 draws, goal difference – 15:7), and “Dragons” lead with 13 points after five rounds (4 wins and 1 draw, goals – 8:4).
Previously, the rivals met twice in the group stage of the most prestigious club tournament of the Old World. In the 2011/2012 season, the “dragons” were twice stronger (2:1 in Porto and 2:0 in Donetsk), and in the 2014/2015 draw, it was not possible to determine the winner twice (2:2 on the Shakhtar field and 1: 1 on the “Porto” field).
This time, bookmakers see the Portuguese club as a clear favorite. For example, Favbet analysts accept bets on the victory of “Porto” with a coefficient of 1.87, on a draw – 4.10, on the success of “Shakhtar” – 4.45.
