WhatsApp will allow you to hide that you are “online”

WhatsApp, as it was revealed, is working on a function so that users can hide if they are online, one of the most anticipated in terms of privacy and which has undoubtedly been claimed for a long time. Once implemented, it will allow the activity status to be completely hidden, something that is not possible in the application so far.

In recent years, WhatsApp has become the messaging service par excellence in the world. As the user base continues to grow, the app, which is owned by Meta, includes changes and new features all the time with the goal of improving the user experience.

Despite the variants that were added, there is a feature that has been part of other applications for a long time and that does not exist in the service: the possibility of hiding that a user is connected. Finally, WhatsApp would incorporate it.

How to hide if you are online on WhatsApp

The information was revealed by the specialized site WABetaInfo. The feature is currently in beta version and cannot be used by Android or iOS users, but is expected to roll out to everyone in the near future.

The new option will be included in the privacy settings. Unlike what is shown in that section, the ability to configure will appear from a menu called “Last time and online”.

There, users will be able to choose who they let see their last connection time and online status. Possibilities include that this information is displayed to everyone, that only contacts can see it, some specific contacts, or that nobody can access it. Regarding the “online” status, the user will be able to choose between being visible to everyone or adopting the same configuration as the “last connection” time.

It is important to remember that you can already decide not to show the time of last connection or that only the contacts see it. The same goes for the profile picture. This new function would be an addition to the aforementioned possibilities.

A release date for the update is not yet known, as the new option is still in development and no projection was released on when it could get out of test mode. In addition to what has already been mentioned, the new version would allow the status of WhatsApp to be enabled so that everyone can see it.

“Companion mode”: the new WhatsApp feature

It is not the only function with which WhatsApp surprised its customers. Meta is also working to add a feature to the messaging service called “companion mode.” It is about being able to associate the account to another mobile device, without the need to have an Internet connection on the main cell phone. In this way, a user could choose to use his account on another cell phone if necessary and would not require any additional activation once the process is configured.
