Black mood in the house Mercedes regarding the fifth place of Lewis Hamilton, who lost the lead of the World Cup in favor of Max Verstappen, returned to command the standings with six points of advantage. Fortunately for the silver arrows, Valtteri Bottas thought about limiting the damage, winning the Turkish GP and thus preventing Verstappen from going beyond second place. Behind him Sergio Perez, then Charles Leclerc with Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton.
The latter, just like the Monegasque driver, did not stop between the 37th and the 38th lap (as the first three did), trying to go as long as possible: with 7 laps to go, however, he had to surrender to the evidence and was forced to the pits. Lewis had said he would come back just to put in the clicks, and instead in the end he had to reassemble the intermediates. One has resulted quarrel with its low wall, a symptom of nervousness for a difficult race at the start but below expectations and heavy from a World Cup perspective.
“What did I tell you? We were wrong”, thundered the British champion once he was recalled for the most stop. “We’ll talk about it later”, was the lapidary response of the Mercedes team, which however was not enough to appease Hamilton’s fury: “Leave me alone”, after which he entered radio silence.
