Finding employees in the catering and hotel industry is not easy on Usedom. An insider explains how they are courted (symbol image).

According to the Federal Employment Agency, there have never been so many open jobs as in April. Many Usedom companies are still looking for employees to keep the business running. Sometimes they resort to tricks to poach employees from other hotels and restaurants. An insider reports.

Zinnowitz. Sounds harsh, but it’s logical: “Some companies have the sheer fear on their necks – they have their backs to the wall. If they don’t find people for the season now to create a financial cushion, they probably won’t survive next winter.” That’s what Michael Raffelt, chairman of the Usedom Island Hotel Association, says when asked whether the targeted poaching of staff from other houses is still an issue. In short: Yes, it’s still an issue, but not as extreme as in previous years.
