US Secretary of Transportation Chao Announces Historic US $ 900 Million Investment in US Infrastructure

US Secretary Elaine L. Chao today announced that the Trump administration would invest US $ 900 million in US infrastructure under the BUILD project's Discretionary Grant Program. Funding has been awarded to 55 projects in 35 states.

"The Administration is targeting BUILD Transportation grants to repair, rebuild and revitalize major infrastructure projects across the country," said US Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.

Fiscal year 2019 BUILD Transportation subsidies relate to investments in surface transportation infrastructure and have been competitively allocated to projects having a significant impact in their local or regional communities. BUILD funds support roads, bridges, public transit, railways, ports and intermodal transportation.
Program selection criteria included safety, economic competitiveness, quality of life, quality of repair, environmental sustainability, innovation, and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders.
To reflect the Administration's ongoing efforts to rebalance historic underinvestment in rural areas of the United States, DOT has allocated 50% of the BUILD Transportation grant to projects in rural areas. For this series of BUILD grants, the maximum grant is $ 25 million, and no more than $ 90 million can be allocated to a single state.
