US First Lady Jill Biden visits Ukraine

The First Lady of the United States, the wife of President Joe Biden, Jill Biden, visited Ukraine. In Uzhgorod, she met with the wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian authorities announced this on May 8. The visit was timed to Mother’s Day, which is celebrated today.

Now Biden’s wife has already left the territory of Ukraine. The visit was not announced in advance. Uzhgorod is located in the Transcarpathian region, in western Ukraine, near the border with Slovakia.

“Jill Biden and Olena Zelenska visited a school in Uzhgorod, where they settled internally displaced persons from the regions of Ukraine where hostilities are taking place,” the Transcarpathian regional administration said in a statement.

Earlier, the first lady of the United States visited Slovakia and Romania, where she met with the US military and Ukrainian refugees. Joe Biden himself stated that he would be glad to visit Ukraine, but his administration has not yet confirmed plans for such a visit. After the start of the war, the US Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense, as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, came to Kyiv.
