CHRISTIANNEWS.COM. – Sarah Young, best known as the author of the book “Jesus Calls. He finds peace in his presence.” passed away this Thursday (August 31) in the afternoon. She was 77 years old.
Sarah Young’s representatives had asked for prayers for her and informed readers and supporters that Young’s health was “rapidly deteriorating”.
A cancer that developed rapidly
In December 2022, Sarah Young informed her followers on social media that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
“As you probably know, I really believe in the power of prayer. I pray for you readers every morning and consider it a precious privilege. Now I need your prayers,” Young wrote.
“I have a type of blood cancer that leaves me very anemic and today I start treatment with chemotherapy drugs. This powerful medication can cause many side effects, but it can also be very effective in treating my condition.”
Sarah Young continued: “I ask you to pray that the medicine will have no side effects and will be fully effective. Thank you!”.
About a week and a half later, Sarah Young provided an update. “Thank you so much for all of her prayers in response to my recent request! Her comments mean a lot to me and support me during this difficult time,” she wrote.
“This will be a long journey as I am now battling the side effects of the treatment. I would appreciate your continued prayers that the side effects will subside, and this treatment will be fully effective. I will continue to keep you informed, when there is something new to share, ”he said at the time.
On August 23, Sarah Young editor Thomas Nelson posted: “We have received the harsh news that Sarah’s health is rapidly deteriorating. We now have the precious privilege of helping Sarah and her family. Join us in prayer.”
Did Sarah Young write a heretical and blasphemous book?
Published in 2004, the book “Jesus calls you. Find peace in his presence,” has long been the subject of both praise and controversy. The 365-day devotional is written in the voice of Jesus, speaking directly to readers.
While many readers have expressed that this first-person writing style has helped them connect with Jesus, others have accused Young’s work of being blasphemous or heretical.
Despite the controversy, the book has become one of the most widely read devotionals of all time, with more than 45 million copies sold.
On September 9, a memorial service for Sarah Young will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee.”
