UK Charts: Death Stranding is the second biggest PS4 launch of 2019

Hideo Kojima's game debuts in second place behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

PlayStation's Death Stranding debuted at No. 2 in boxed rankings in the UK.

This is the second largest exclusivity and the second largest new IP released this year, behind another exclusive PS4 – Days Gone, released in April. Compared to that, Hideo Kojima 's new title is sold at 36% fewer units to its launch.

This is Kojima's first new game since the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which arrived in September 2015 and has been the most successful launch of Metal Gear Solid to date.

This means that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare retains No. 1 for a third consecutive week. The Activision game continues to perform well, with sales up 26% over last year's Black Ops 4.

The arrival of Death Stranding means that Luigi's Mansion 3 collapses. The latest Nintendo Switch game went from # 2 to # 4 with a 59% drop in sales week after week.

There are a number of new boxed versions this week, with EA's Need for Speed: Heat coming in fifth. The Need for Speed franchise has struggled in recent years and this new title sold 41% fewer boxes at launch than Need for Speed: Payback. Note: Digital sales are not included in this data.

Need for Speed is one of the three EA games in the charts. FIFA 20 holds rank # 3, while Plants vs. Zombies: the battle for Neighborville grows to # 10. Sales of this game have actually increased 10% this week, which means its fourth week on sale was more important than his first week (a rare feat in the UK charts). The shooter was also a big hit as a download, and sold a lot more numerically than physically.

To return to the new versions, a special pack of Fortnite – The Darkfire Bundle, published by Warner Broslands at number 7. Meanwhile, Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics debuted in 8th place. This is the most successful Mario & Sonic title since the London Games of 2012, released on Nintendo Wii in 2011.

Speaking of Nintendo Wii, there is a new Wii title in the charts this week – Just Dance 2020 at No. 15. Incredibly, the Wii version is the second most successful version of the game, accounting for 21% of all sales of Just Dance 2020. The Nintendo Switch edition accounted for 55% of sales, 14% for PS4 and 14% for Xbox One.

The latest dance game Ubisoft debuts with a place ahead on another new release – Jumanji: The Video Game. The film was released by Outright Games and arrives at number 16.

Finally, the release of the movie Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires Conspiracy of Layton means that the game returns to the charts at No. 29. The Mystery Adventure was released on Nintendo 3DS in October 2017.
