Home triumph for Vincent Kriechmayr! The Upper Austrian was relieved at the finish on Friday in Kitzbühel: “I took a big risk in the traverse. Half a meter further and I would have saluted.”
In Kitzbühel, our ÖSV men were able to end the five-competition ban on the podium because Kriechmayr snagged his third win of the season. “It wasn’t error-free,” said the 31-year-old about his ride in an ORF interview. In the end, however, he relegated the Italian surprise man Florian Schieder and the Swiss Nils Hintermann to their places.

“I took a risk in the Traverse. Half a meter further and I would have saluted. Then I lost something down there. I didn’t quite manage it that well up in the flat,” says “Vinc”.

“No one can deny me that”
“Not 100 percent error-free – but nobody can deny me the risk.” And it paid off. For the very first time, Kriechmayr, who won the Super-G in the Gamsstadt in 2021, was at the top of the podium at the World Cup downhill in Kitzbühel.
Another descent is scheduled for Saturday, weather permitting. This race is then considered the traditional Hahnenkamm descent. On Sunday, the slalom on the Ganslernhang, which also has a lot of tradition, is on the program.
