## Executive Summary
An oil tanker carrying Iraqi fuel oil was struck by a drone in Iraqi waters amid escalating US-Iran attacks.

## Intelligence Brief
A Panama-flagged tanker transporting Iraqi fuel oil was struck by a drone within Iraqi territorial waters, according to reporting by Reuters, The Jerusalem Post, and Anadolu Ajansı. This naval incident forms part of a broader disruption to Gulf shipping tied to an escalation spiral between the United States and Iran, which has affected multiple merchant vessels across the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Several merchant vessels have reportedly been hit in the region, with the United Kingdom also noting a naval incident near Iraq's coast.

Outlets including The Indian Express, The Times of Israel, and Arizona Daily Star frame the events as part of ongoing US and Iranian strikes targeting tankers. Complicating the attribution of the specific strike in Iraqi waters, officials in Iraq stated that the oil tanker was hit by an unidentified source. Coverage does not yet specify the origin of the drone or clarify responsibility for that particular vessel impact.

Future updates will depend on official investigations by maritime authorities and further disclosures regarding the identity of the strike source and the status of affected vessels in Gulf shipping lanes.
