## Executive Summary
Deadly Nepal floods push death toll past 900 and leave hundreds of hydropower workers trapped underground.

## Intelligence Brief
The flood death toll in Nepal and adjoining China has risen past 900, and officials say hundreds of hydropower‑plant workers may be trapped in flooded tunnels. The surge follows flash floods and mudslides that swept villages, roads and power infrastructure. Communities now confront a lethal combination of loss of life and crippled energy assets. Reuters reported that rescuers have reached remote hamlets and restored electricity nearly a week after the disaster, while The Hill and AP News each recorded more than 1,000 deaths. Fox News cited a confirmed count of 903 fatalities, and the Pittsburgh Post‑Gazette noted the toll exceeding 950. The Associated Press and NBC News warned that 4,700 to 5,000 people remain missing. Specific cases include 47 Baltimore tourists, a Bartlett, Illinois woman, and an Arizona temple leader, all listed among the missing, and dozens of other foreign visitors.

The Guardian reported claims that China is suppressing images of the disaster. Death figures vary because verification is hampered by inaccessible terrain and ongoing mud flows. Rediff warned that the disaster does not stem from a single cause, and the Guardian highlighted alleged Chinese efforts to conceal the scale of flooding. These uncertainties keep the final casualty count fluid. Officials continue to revise figures as new bodies are recovered. Families of trapped workers wait anxiously as officials assess tunnel stability. The restoration of power has allowed hospitals to operate, but many areas remain without clean water.

International aid crews from neighboring countries have also arrived to support local efforts. Monitoring will focus on updates from the ongoing tunnel rescue, the tally of missing Americans, and any official statements from Chinese authorities about the Nepal‑Tibet flood images. The Hill and The Atlantic continue to publish survivor testimonies, while the Guardian tracks claims of image suppression. As burial preparations begin in some districts, officials will need to balance public mourning with continued search operations. Future reports are expected to clarify the final death toll and the status of the trapped workers.
