## Executive Summary
Glacial collapse sparks deadly Nepal‑China floods, killing 160 and leaving thousands missing.

## Intelligence Brief
CBS News described the scene as having “scores dead” and “hundreds missing,” while Al Jazeera reported more than 800 missing and the New York Times cited over 1,300 missing across the two regions. The disaster has triggered large‑scale rescue operations and prompted residents on both sides of the border to flee low‑lying valleys. Scientists cited by the Washington Post and the BBC say a collapsing glacier triggered the sudden surge of water and mud that turned into the deadly flash flood. The glacier's failure released a massive volume of meltwater that rushed down valleys in both Nepal and Tibet, creating the mud flow described by CBS News.

The Guardian traced the flood’s progression, noting that the rapid release turned into a fast‑moving mud flow that overwhelmed riverbanks. Al Jazeera reports more than 800 people missing while the New York Times lists over 1,300 missing across Nepal and Tibet. The Associated Press notes more than 550 missing in Tibet and says hundreds are also missing in Nepal. Reuters limits its coverage to the nationalities of missing tourists, offering little detail on the overall casualty picture.

CNN highlighted families desperately searching for news of missing loved ones, underscoring the human dimension of the tragedy. The Guardian and BBC note that remote valleys remain inaccessible, complicating rescue logistics. Ongoing rescue missions continue in isolated areas, and assessments of additional flood risk remain pending as experts await more data.
