## Executive Summary
Concerns grow over the intersection of expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure and declining water levels in regions across the United States.

## Intelligence Brief
Data centers are being constructed near shrinking lakes, raising questions about the intersection of AI expansion and water resource management. Coverage highlights that water consumption, rather than power, may increasingly dictate the location of new data facilities.

Outlets including Newsweek, The Atlantic, and the Financial Times report on the environmental footprint of AI. State-level attention is increasing, with The Topeka Capital-Journal detailing water procurement methods in Kansas, while Nebraska officials are reportedly pushing for greater transparency regarding water usage at these sites.

Future developments may involve stricter reporting requirements for developers as policy discussions broaden. Coverage from The Daily Star indicates that international interest in managing these environmental costs is also growing, though specific regulatory timelines remain unspecified.

## Verified Facts & Key Claims
### What is the primary factor influencing data center locations?
Coverage suggests water availability is becoming a deciding factor alongside power requirements.

### Which states are mentioned in relation to water usage concerns?
The Topeka Capital-Journal and Grist report on specific activities or policy interests in Kansas and Nebraska.

### Are there specific transparency requirements for data centers?
Nebraska is currently pursuing measures to require data centers to disclose details regarding their water usage.
