The Jacksonville Jaguars made edge rusher Travon Walker the number 1 pick in the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday night.
It has been suggested that the Jaguars considered Walker, Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal and NC State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu before settling on Walker.
Walker had only 9.5 sacks in his Georgia career, but his stock rose ahead of the draft due to his physical attributes. In the run-up to the draft, he was compared to Minnesota Vikings star Danielle Hunter for his college low sacks and athletic qualities.
Walker, 21, joins the Jaguars, who had just 32 sacks last season, ranking 27th in the NFL. Josh Allen led the team with 7.5 sacks in 2021.
Walker is Jacksonville’s second No. 1 pick in as many years. The Jaguars chose former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first pick in 2021.
