Two people died in an accident in Cologne-Hürth on May 4th. On Tuesday it turned out: The tracks were not released for construction work.

An IC train caught two construction workers doing work on the track bed last Thursday. The two men died at the scene of the accident, as reported by t-online. As the “Kölner Stadtanzeiger” reported on Tuesday, the tracks for the construction work were not released.

According to the “Stadtantanzeiger”, the dispatcher at the signal box in Hürth-Kalscheuren did not give the site supervisor permission to let the men onto the track. The construction supervisor asked for the release by cell phone.

The Cologne public prosecutor’s office informed the “Kölner Stadtanzeiger” on request that it was unable to comment on the details. A technical failure is ruled out as the cause of the accident.
