Konrad was part of a group of riders who broke away from the pack in the first hour. On the Col Portet-d’Aspet, more than 30 kilometers before the finish, the Bora-hansgrohe rider was left alone in front. In just over 40 seconds, Italian Sonny Colbrelli sprinted to second place, ahead of Australian Michael Matthews.

For Konrad (29) it was his third victory as a cycling professional. He previously won two national road titles in his home country: in 2019 and this year.

None of the escapees was a threat to Tadej Pogacar’s leading position. The Slovenian from UAE-Team Emirates cycles in a group that probably arrives more than 10 minutes after the stage winner.

Wednesday follows a tough mountain stage with arrival at altitude in Saint-Lary-Soulan.
